Lanigan Abbey Estate B&B

Gundagai, Southern Tablelands - New South Wales

Having personally inspected the premises myself, all I can say is "Wow"! This is living history presented in pristine condition and with quality, charm and ambience that will never be replicated in its existing style.

Not only is this a magnificent, historic abbey but it is also a fully operational unique accommodation destination in a delightful country town only an hour from the city of Wagga Wagga and just off the main Hume Highway expressway between Melbourne and Sydney. Lanigan Abbey Estate is unique in New South Wales and therefore the premium Bed and Breakfast and Art Gallery of the Greater Riverina.

Lanigan Abbey Estate is a historic Heritage & National Trust listed property. The Estate was built in two stages. In 1888 the Abbey was built for The Sisters of Mercy who came from Ireland. The Abbey is built in the Romanesque style; the brick work is in the poly chromatic style in the Lombardic design which is the same as Rippon Lee in Melbourne. Set in re-established gardens in the Italian style of formal lawns with many marble statues and pots filled with exotic trees and plants. Amidst this large garden is the Lanigan Central Square and on the eastern side of Square is the Gothic Designed Art Gallery Restaurant and The Gate Keepers Cottage which was built in 1898 as the school building.

There are 5 suites; The Irish State Suite, The Rose Suite, The Blue Suite, The Gatekeepers Cottage and the Garden Suite. Three of the suites have their own en-suite bathrooms and the other two have access to their own private bathroom. Between the Gatekeepers Cottage and the main Abbey is guest parking and the property has two street frontages.

The formal dining and drawing rooms are magnificent with beautiful furnishings and in excellent, fully restored condition. Whilst there is a remarkable list of quality inclusions being sold as the inventory in the sale, there are further unique antiques, paintings and special pieces are available to purchase to allow them to remain a part of the estate.

Within Lanigan Abbey is a gloriously retouched Chapel which is consecrated to Christ the King. There are many historical features of restored statues, paintings, Sacred Pieces and an Organ. Ceremonies for guests to celebrate their wedding or the re-taking of their Marriage Vows can be part of the experience. The garden represents a brilliant settling for weddings, functions or family gatherings. There is ample room for a marquee for the larger gatherings.

Private Dinners and Luncheons can be catered for up to 50 people and Lanigan Square is available to be used for a variety of events.
